Company Overview:
Electric Insurance was founded in 1927 as a subsidiary of General Electric. The original company name was EMLICO, and began in Massachusetts, where they still maintain their head office today. Originally, they only existed to provide insurance to GE employees, but by the mid-1960's had developed into a full service insurance company that could insure homes and autos as well as protecting the health interests of GE employees. They continued in this way into the 1950's, when coverage expanded to GE employees located anywhere in the country.
Expansion continued through the 1970's and 1980's, and skyrocketed in the mid 1990's when Electric became of first insurance companies to offer online auto and life insurance sales. Today, their assets are more than 1.5 billion dollars, with around 450 Million dollars in written insurance policies. While they are still a major insurer of General Electric employees, coverage from Electric Insurance is now offered to the general public, and includes renters and condo insurance as well as homeowners, automobile, life insurance, and personal umbrella coverage.
By adopting a "one call does it all" procedure that allows policyholders to buy, change and file claims quickly and easily, Electric Insurance has built a reputation as one of the most attentive insurance firms. Also, sticking to their roots as a company insurance provider, Electric offers group affiliation discounts for companies who wish to offer Electric's services to their own employees, which has contributed greatly to the success of the company, and helped to confirm their status as a company that clients stick with, year after year.
Electric Insurance has come a long way since being created to provide security to the employees of General Electric, but in all that time they have kept close to their ideals, and have made distinctive efforts to provide the best possible service to their policyholders. In addition to the United States, Electric Insurance is also licensed to do business in Canada and the United Kingdom.
